Over 1,300 Students Benefit from Donated Learning Resources

In February 2026, Lema Plan International successfully completed the distribution of educational and ICT equipment to five rural primary schools in the Kisarawe District, Pwani Region, Tanzania.

This initiative followed a needs assessment conducted in 2024, which highlighted a significant lack of digital equipment in several schools in the district. Many schools had limited access to computers and printers, making it difficult for teachers to prepare examinations and limiting students’ exposure to digital learning tools.

With the support of partners and donors in Switzerland, Lema Plan International coordinated the collection, preparation, and international shipment of donated educational materials in order to help address these challenges.

A decisive contribution from one of our key partners made this project possible.

In December 2025, the foundation provided a financial contribution of 3,250 CHF, which allowed Lema Plan International to cover essential logistics costs related to the international transport of the donated educational equipment.

This support represented a major breakthrough for the project, enabling the materials collected in Switzerland to be shipped and successfully delivered to schools in Kisarawe District.

Summary of Materials Shipped to Tanzania

As part of the project implemented in Kisarawe District, the following educational materials were shipped and distributed:

  • 10 desktop computers (complete units with monitor, keyboard, and CPU)
Several printers, including inkjet and multifunction printers
194 educational books, including English school books and novels
Approximately 20 kg of additional English books
    Educational puzzles and learning materials
School supplies, including notebooks, pens, markers, folders, and binders

These materials were prepared in Switzerland and shipped to Tanzania in several cartons as part of the initiative.

A Responsible and Realistic Approach

One of the strengths of this initiative was the careful and responsible approach taken during the project preparation phase.

Rather than launching a very large and complex shipment, Lema Plan International deliberately chose to start with a manageable quantity of donated materials.

For example, the project focused on collecting a limited number of computers and educational resources — around a dozen computers rather than attempting to ship 50 or more units at once. This approach allowed the organization to test the logistics process while keeping financial risks under control.

By working with a moderate number of cartons and carefully selected materials, the organization ensured that even if challenges arose, the operational costs would remain manageable.

This strategy allowed the project to move forward responsibly while building practical experience in international logistics.

Official Distribution in Kisarawe District

On February 5, 2026, the Lema Plan International team carried out the official distribution of ICT equipment to five primary schools in Kisarawe District.

The schools reached were:

  • Kibasila Primary School
  • Visegese Primary School
  • Gumba Primary School
  • Chang’ombe B Primary School
  • Chale Primary School

The equipment distributed included computers and printers that will help schools improve administrative work and exam preparation.

More than 1,300 students are expected to benefit directly from these resources.

The project was implemented with the authorization and collaboration of the District Executive Director (DED) and the District Education Officer (DEO), ensuring that the initiative was aligned with local educational authorities.

Positive Reception from Schools

The reception from school administrations and teachers was very encouraging.

Teachers emphasized that access to printers will significantly reduce the cost and time required to prepare examinations and teaching materials.

The computers will also allow schools to gradually introduce basic digital learning tools, giving many students their first opportunity to interact with computer technology in an educational setting.

Observations from the Field

During visits to the schools, the Lema Plan International team also observed several broader challenges affecting learning conditions.

These included:

• Classrooms requiring renovation
• Limited access to clean water in some schools
• Lack of sports equipment and extracurricular resources
• Students lacking basic school supplies such as uniforms, shoes, and school bags
• Limited nutrition and sanitation resources

These observations highlight the importance of holistic support to improve learning environments in rural communities.

Transparency and Financial Accountability

The project received financial support from partners and private donors in Switzerland.

A key contribution of 3,250 CHF from Fondation HelpEducation made it possible to cover the essential logistics costs required for the international shipment of the donated educational equipment.

The total estimated cost of the project reached approximately 4,605 CHF, with the remaining expenses covered by Lema Plan International to ensure the successful completion of the initiative.

The organization maintains financial transparency through proper documentation, receipts, and reporting procedures.

A Learning Journey in International Logistics

This project also represented an important learning experience in managing international logistics.

Throughout the process, the organization encountered several operational challenges, including:

• Administrative procedures related to international transport
• Coordination delays and logistical constraints
• The complexity of organizing shipments across continents
• Difficulties in securing funding at certain stages of the project

Despite these challenges, the support received from partners and donors made it possible to successfully complete the initiative.

Materials Prepared for Future Educational Projects

In addition to the materials already delivered to Tanzania, some donated educational resources remain stored in Switzerland in several cartons.

These materials are intended for future educational initiatives in Togo.

Lema Plan International plans to ship these cartons once partners or donors are secured to support the international transport and logistics costs.

A dedicated campaign to mobilize support for this shipment will be launched starting in April.

A Collective Effort

This project was made possible thanks to the collaboration of several partners and supporters.

We extend our special recognition to Fondation HelpEducation (Geneva, Switzerland) for its decisive support that made the shipment of educational materials possible.

We also thank:

  • Radio Télévision Suisse – Chacun pour Tous
  • Private donors and supporters in Switzerland
  • The authorities of Kisarawe District
  • Local volunteers and partners who contributed to the project

Their solidarity and engagement helped deliver essential educational resources to schools that need them most.

Looking Ahead

Lema Plan International will continue working with partners and communities to improve access to educational resources and opportunities for students.

Future initiatives will focus on strengthening educational support, improving learning environments, and expanding partnerships in order to reach more underserved communities.

The organization remains committed to supporting education as a key driver of opportunity and development.

Impact Testimonial

In this video, we share the testimony of Mr. Abu Mwiniheri Abedi, a teacher at Changombe B Primary School, one of the five schools in Kisarawe District that directly benefited from the project.

He explains that before this initiative, some students had never seen a computer or used a mouse before.

Today, these resources allow students to discover the digital world, expand their knowledge, and develop essential skills for their future.

Partner Recognition

Lema Plan International would like to express its sincere gratitude to Fondation HelpEducation, a key partner whose support made this project possible.

What makes this support particularly meaningful is the trust that it represents. In many cases, partnerships in the development sector are built through long meetings and extended collaborations. In this instance, the support was offered with confidence in the mission and work of the organization, even without a prior personal meeting.

Lema Plan International is deeply grateful for this gesture of trust and generosity. Such support not only makes projects possible but also encourages organizations working in challenging environments to continue their efforts to improve access to education.
