There are so many ways to grow — and some of the best ones are simple, joyful, and full of learning. 🪘✨
Awalé helps develop strategy, creativity, and a healthy mind, all through play!
Our Awalé workshops are designed for children aged 7–14 and run two Saturdays per month (outside school holidays). More than just a game, Awalé is a structured, progressive program that develops:
- Logic & concentration – children learn to plan ahead and focus on their moves
- Problem-solving & strategic thinking – they develop analytical skills while playing
- Collaboration & healthy competition – building social skills, patience, and respect for others
- Cultural awareness and discovery – connecting children to African and global traditions
Interestingly, during our pilot project in Val-de-Ruz, we discovered that many children—even African children—did not know the traditional Awalé game. Some preferred Western cultural activities, unaware of their own heritage. This workshop reconnects children with cultural roots while teaching critical thinking, strategy, and fun learning.
How It Works
The program is structured in six progressive levels, allowing children to gradually:
- Learn the rules and vocabulary of the game
- Practice basic tactics and decision-making
- Explore advanced strategies in a playful environment
- Participate in interactive challenges and competitions
- Discover the history and cultural significance of Awalé
