Imagine going to school every day eager to learn—but never having the chance to borrow a book, explore a story, or sit in a quiet space dedicated to reading.
For many children in Yalla, a rural community in Togo’s Maritime Region, this is their daily reality.
Although the local public primary schools are filled with motivated students and committed teachers, they have no school libraries. Books are scarce, reading spaces do not exist, and many children share the same textbook in class. Once the school day ends, opportunities to continue learning through reading are almost nonexistent.
At Lema Plan International, we believe every child deserves access to books—not only to improve literacy but to inspire curiosity, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning.
