Supporting Education In Tanzanian Communities

On July 15, 2024, our organization undertook the distribution of educational materials to five
primary schools located in the Kisarawe District of Tanzania, each representing distinct historical contexts as
detailed in the following article. This is in line with our determined goal of supporting education in Tanzania.

This project was enabled by a substantial contribution of 3,995.39 CHF from Société Privéede Gérance, an organization located in Geneva, Switzerland. This marks not the first occasion on which the firm has extended its support to non-governmental organizations; this year, its focus is on aiding disadvantaged children in Tanzania. The Swiss organization not only provided this significant financial contribution but also expressed a commitment to continue its support starting in July 2024. The goal is to ensure that children in Tanzania receive quality education that can enhance their academic performance and ultimately help them escape the
cycle of poverty.

In Tanzania, the expected age for completing primary education is 13 years, with students typically starting standard 1 at the age of seven. This age requirement ensures that students have a solid foundation in education before moving on to secondary school.

The implementation of fee-free education in Tanzania has significantly increased accessibility to education. This has resulted in a higher percentage of students completing primary education. However, challenges still exist, such as students being raised by grandparents who may not provide strict follow-up, leading to a higher dropout rate.

Additionally, certain cultural traditions, such as Ngoma and Unyago, can contribute to early pregnancies and child marriages. This is peculiar to girls, which can hinder their ability to complete primary education. Moreover, pastoral families, who live a nomadic lifestyle in search of pastures, face unique challenges in ensuring their children receive a consistent education.

Our organization is dedicated to assisting marginalized communities, which is why we partnered with the District Primary Education Officer, Madam Hadija Mwinuka, to guarantee that the distribution of educational materials was conducted fairly and equitably. This collaboration was particularly crucial in reaching those children who are living in extreme
poverty, ensuring that our efforts have a meaningful impact on their lives.

During our visit to the selected five primary schools, our team was thrilled to distribute essential
learning materials, including two exercise books and packs of pens to each student. Out of 1,400 students, 318 were fortunate enough to receive these supplies. The joy on their faces, reflected in their broad smiles, was a testament to the positive effect of our initiative.
