The International Day of Education is marked every year on January 24th to celebrate the role of education for peace and development. This event was set up in the year 2018 and since then it has been marked yearly.
January 24th, 2022 is the fourth year of this celebration and the theme of this year’s International Day of Education is tagged “Changing Course, Transforming Education”. This year’s theme was chosen with the idea of setting up structures that would incorporate new systems of learning, especially with the introduction of technology. These systems will enable even the most rural areas to have access to life-changing education that would improve their lives in the long run.
Education is a human right that helps us get exposure to new ideas that will improve the world. It violates human rights when children who should be in school are out on the streets uneducated and uninformed.
Education is the tool that breaks most mental barriers, it is the foundation for all progress and growth in a society, and at the pace, the world is growing, it will be a huge loss to any nation whose young cannot keep up with the trends. With Education, everything can be learned and this is the major reason it should be a priority as it would lead to key changes that will improve the lives of members of society.
Education is a tool for poverty eradication and a force of peace, it is also one of the main Sustainable development Goals that is part of the program to propagate gender equality and eliminate child marriage. It is only through education that we learn how to properly manage the resources that abound around us and open our minds to possibilities of progress and global breakthrough.
With the staggering number of children out of school, the risk of innovation and invention dying out is quite terrifying. That is why the 4th sustainable Development Goal is critical and its advancement must be at the forefront of every nation’s goal.
Prioritizing education is for the public good, that is why even in our little way we should aim to support its propagation, and normalize quality education even in the most rural of places. In this work of impact, no one should be left behind. Education is a tool for change, and as such, it should be used to impact lives especially for the young.
