As we enter the end-of-year season — a time marked by generosity, impact and shared purpose — Lema Plan International is pleased to announce that our Tanzania education project is fully on track and progressing smoothly.
Following our public appeal on RTS – Chacun Pour Tous, individuals, families and institutions across Switzerland have donated essential educational materials for rural schools in the Kisarawe District in Tanzania.
Thanks to this collective goodwill, we have successfully gathered:
- 22 parcels’ worth of materials (currently unboxed for export preparation)
- 330 kg of books, computers, printers and classroom supplies
- All items sorted, inventoried and safely stored in our depot in La Chaux-de-Fonds
The materials are organised and ready.
The beneficiary schools — serving more than 1,400 students — are prepared.
Our team in Tanzania has fully arranged all local logistics.
The final step remaining is the international shipment.
Why We Are Launching This End-of-Year Appeal
Although the project structure is stable and all operations are under control, the shipment must be completed before 31 December for three key reasons:
1️⃣ To close the 2024 budget cycle
Delaying transport means carrying the costs into 2025.
2️⃣ To avoid unnecessary storage fees
Our depot costs 100 CHF per month, increasing the project budget each month the materials remain in Switzerland.
3️⃣ To support the schools ahead of their new academic year
Schools in Kisarawe begin their teaching cycle in January and need the materials in time for planning.
What Still Needs Funding
To complete the shipment, we are seeking:

Why packaging is included
Although the materials are sorted and stored, they are not yet packaged according to international air-cargo standards. Final preparation must follow the instructions of our freight forwarder and includes:
- protective wrapping
- reinforcement
- international labelling
- cargo-ready sealing
- weight confirmation per parcel
These steps can only be completed once the shipment is scheduled and funded.
Our contribution
All local operational costs in Tanzania — including reception, transport, coordination and school deliveries — are fully covered by our organisation:

Additional Update: Donations of French Books
Earlier this year, our appeal focused exclusively on English learning materials and digital tools for the Tanzania project. However, several generous donors also offered 33 cartons of French books in 2024, even though our call for French materials had officially closed.
We welcome these contributions with gratitude.
As our strategic priority for 2025–2026 is to complete and stabilise the Tanzania education project, these French books have been formally allocated to our Togo Literacy Programme. They will be processed and shipped once the Tanzania operation is fully completed, following our standard programme cycle. This ensures full transparency, clear budgeting and the continued quality of our work in both countries.
